Durham County District Attorney Roger Echols announced Tuesday afternoon that he is dropping the charges against the five remaining people accused of destroying a Confederate statue in downtown Durham last summer.
Githens Middle School students walked out of class Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 in Durham, NC to protest the school shootings in Florida. The students sat quietly in the parking lot for about 17 minutes before returning to class.
Durham County District Judge Fred Battaglia Jr. agreed with Durham County Attorney Lowell Siler’s argument that it is an “undue burden,” on elected officials to compel them to testify at Durham's Confederate statue trial since the information they would be asked to provide could be provided from other individuals.
